1. Generally in Bhutan bargaining is NOT practiced or exercised. Customers generally request and
NOT demand discount.
2. Import of cigarette requires a permit available at entry point
3. Smoking without a valid permit inviting a fine. Smoking is NOT permitted in public areas and Vehicles.
4. Dress code must be followed as per prescription especially at sensitive places such as places of worship, fortresses, monasteries…Etc.
5. Littering is NOT encourage
6. Obey safety instructions given by local guide in regards to protective clothing’s, physical activities, and places that might compromise safety i.e. rivers, cliffs … etc.
7. Indian Currency is accepted and the value is same
8. Tipping is welcomed , usually 10% of the bill
9. Photography of religious artifacts’ and important personalities need discretion , sometimes permission
10. Forbidden areas must NOT be intruded as it may be places of worship and sensitivity.
11. Cross mail Street at designated zebra crossing only. Walk on footpath only
12. Public toilets are limited; plan accordingly when leaving the Hotel. Ask guide for information.
13. Finger pointing is NOT regarded or appreciated
14. Speak at a time, raising a voice is considered rude as most of the Bhutanese are soft spoken. English is widely spoken and understood
15. Bhutanese respect privacy, if spoken to, Bhutanese will answer, if approached, – service will be given.
16. Ensure that you carry your medications as the same formulation may not be available in Bhutan.
17. Carry Your Passport and tickets in an easy to access pouch or bag.
18. Do not pack sharp objects such as knives, scissors, penknives etc. in your hand luggage.
